It’s tough enough dealing with the usual problems and irritations you face every day. There’s really no need to make your journey in life more complicated than it should be.
Maybe some of your “friends” (who shouldn’t really be your friends) told you that you can’t do something; maybe your family doesn’t understand what it is that you are trying to do. Perhaps you pitched a new idea and got shot down or didn’t make that sale.
No matter how you choose to cut it, don’t forget this truth: you are remarkable.
Most people don’t truly appreciate themselves and what they have to offer.
Don’t be most people.
If you are reading this, the chances are that success means a lot to you. If so, you owe it to yourself to steer clear of these self-defeating lies:
The Consumerism Lie: Life can be so much better if I had …
All that fascination for buying every “shiny thing” is not ever-lasting. In fact, the feeling starts to “wear off” right at the moment you pay for something.
Don’t get me wrong, I like nice things just as much as the next person. But focus on making money, getting wealthy, and creating change. Don’t just chase toys.
The Time Crunch: If only I had the time…
You have time. I have time. It’s just that we are all pretty bad when it comes down to managing it. We do try -- and that explains the massive explosion of time trackers, productivity books, and time-management apps.
But regardless of your time management skills, the “lack of time” thing is an excuse -- a common one. If you really wanted something bad enough, you’d find the time to do it.
Either you do it or you don’t.
The social pressure: What will they think?
What others think doesn’t do anything for you, your bank account, and what you must perceive about yourself.
Too many ideas get buried, things don’t get done, days get slowed down, time is wasted, and many people don’t live up to their potential because they are worried about what others think.
It’s an epidemic, and if you give in to its temptation, you’ll be consumed by it. No one should care so much about what you do, except you.
What other lies do you tell yourself?
